AMI offers a line of diode drivers designed for driving seed laser diodes for fiber laser applications. Our drivers can power most type 1 butterfly packages.  A variety of pulsewidth, power and control options are available.

AMI’s Model 762 OEM programmable seed laser diode drivers (pump laser diode drivers) are ideal for driving 14-pin butterfly packaged laser diode modules for use in CW or pulsed fiber MOPA systems for materials processing, LIDAR systems for remote sensing, laser communication applications and rangefinding.

The Model 763 OEM seed laser diode driver is implemented as a transconductance amplifier (analog voltage in, scaled current out). The driver circuitry operates from a single 5V power source. All other needed voltages are generated on the board by high efficiency switching power supplies.

The Model 766 offers user-adjustable pulse width capability as low as 150ps up to 1ns at output currents up to 1.1A. The driver circuitry operates from a single 5V power source. All other needed voltages are generated on the board by high efficiency switching power supplies.

All three drivers listed above supply a bidirectional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) thermoelectric cooler controller (TEC) with current capability of 3A and voltage capability of 4.2V.

Pulsed Laser Diode Drivers

AMI offers a line of pulsed laser diode drivers for both high current and low current applications. AMI’s high current high power driver Model 7701A is an OEM design for high power DPSS laser and illumination applications. AMI’s high speed high peak power Model 766 is ideal for driving 14-pin butterfly packaged laser diode modules for use in pulsed fiber MOPA systems for materials processing, LIDAR systems for remote sensing, laser communication applications and rangefinding.

For laboratory and bench top applications AMI offers the Model 8800D laser diode controller.  This microprocessor controlled rack mount system provides pulsed output currents to drive laser diodes for pumping solid-state lasers. The internal microprocessor provides the flexibility and convenience of software control and the system status is presented on an easy-to-read LCD graphics display. The Model 8800D is an excellent prototyping tool that allows the laser developer operating flexibility to determine the best diode and drive for their end use.  Once the final requirements are defined, AMI can help specify and design an OEM driver tailored to your application that will be cost-competitive, have high reliability and a small footprint

CW Laser Diode Drivers

AMI offers a line of CW laser diode drivers for both high current and low current applications. The AMI Model 784 is ideal for compact industrial and medical laser applications. Proprietary technology allows AMI to offer a 50A, 2.5V CW diode driver with industry leading efficiency and footprint. For applications benefiting from extremely low output ripple and precise control the Model 785 is an excellent choice.   The end user can shape laser diode output waveforms with a modulation bandwidth of 600kHz.

The 2kW high power driver Model 5705 is designed to allow you to chain multiple modules together for even higher power applications.

For laboratory and bench top CW laser diode driver applications AMI offers the Model 880D CW laser diode controller. This turn-key rack mount system provides CW output currents to drive laser diodes for pumping solid-state lasers. The Model 880D offers front panel and remote controls or it can be operated via a RS-232 interface. The output current is presented on an easy-to-read LCD display.  The Model 880D is an excellent prototyping tool that allows the CW diode laser developer operating flexibility to determine the best laser diode and drive for their end use. Pulsed Flashlamp Drivers

AMI has developed a complete family of micro-processor driven controllers for solid-state lasers. Based on a modular design approach, each controller is optimized for a given application or specific customer need. The 8800 series provides a capacitor charging power supply, fixed or variable pulse forming network, simmer supply and all the electronic circuitry needed to drive flashlamps for pumping solid-state lasers. Software control allows operating parameters such as pulse energy, pulse repetition rate, pulsewidth, and mode of operation to be easily altered. Complete control of timing signals for multiple lamp and Q-switched applications is also provided by the embedded software.

Simmer Supplies

Simmer supply

In pulsed laser systems, flashlamps are often simmered during the period of time between the main discharge pulses. Simmering is nothing more than allowing a trickle current (50mA to 10A) to flow in the lamp between pulses. Flashlamp simmering is beneficial for two reasons. First, having an established conduction path in the flashlamp at the time of the main discharge pulse results in less variation in shot to shot pulse energy. Second, because arc expansion during the pulse is less violent, lamp lifetimes are improved in simmered systems. In general, both stability and lamp lifetime improve with increasing simmer current.

AMI’s simmer supplies are powered from a 24VDC source and provide both a built-in automatic ignition restrike circuit and a post-flash boost mechanism. These features minimize the possibility of missing pulses when operating with a continuous train of laser pulses.

MI’s line of Pockels cell drivers employs MOSFET technology which provides excellent noise immunity and a smooth output waveform. AMI’s OEM drivers offer reliable, high voltage pulsing in compact surface mount modules. These drivers include an internal high voltage power supply and provide a monitor to observe the high voltage output amplitude prior to the pulse.
